This was our final spring performance on 5/13/2006 at the Moorpark College Jazz Festival. We played this at the Reno Jazz Festival, too, but this was the only performance where we pushed it up to the right speed and still played it well.

The Mediocre Blogger has an excellent primer to jazz appreciation for anyone who needs a good introduction. Points are illustrated with some great classics: So What, Freddie Freeloader and Kind of Blue should be required listening for any one new to jazz.

Gregg Bissonette’s solo really demonstrates many different styles — one of his signatures is the switch, mid-solo, to the brushes. He’s a great teacher — some of the licks in this solo are ones he’s taught me. His video is highly recommended if you’re interested in learning some of his techniques.
