Our school combo performed for last night’s spring concert. This was an encore, but really just a big jam session. I like the way it came out.

This was our final spring performance on 5/13/2006 at the Moorpark College Jazz Festival. We played this at the Reno Jazz Festival, too, but this was the only performance where we pushed it up to the right speed and still played it well.

Gregg Bissonette and the Buddy Rich Big Band

Gregg Bissonette’s solo really demonstrates many different styles — one of his signatures is the switch, mid-solo, to the brushes. He’s a great teacher — some of the licks in this solo are ones he’s taught me. His video is highly recommended if you’re interested in learning some of his techniques.

Fastest doesn’t equal best

The idea of being named the ‘fastest drummer’ doesn’t mean squat if it means playing with crummy technique and crappy sound. When you hear one of them say that at 40 seconds it starts to hurt, assume their technique sucks.

When I have time, I’m going to give this a try. It could be amazing.
